Revolutionary Telemedicine System Improves Bedside Care and Reduces Cost
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Today, Sensiotec Inc. will unveil its revolutionary Virtual Medical Assistant™ (VMA) System, the world’s first non-contact remote vital signs monitor, at the 17th Annual American Telemedicine Association Meeting & Expo. The VMA technology has received FDA 510(k) Class II pre-market clearance and is in market trials.
The VMA significantly improves patient care at the bedside. Operating at a fraction of the cost of conventional telemetry systems, the VMA monitors heart and respiration rates and movement without pressure pads, sensors or cuffs that touch the patient. The VMA includes alerts for fall prevention, pressure ulcer prevention and deteriorating heart and respiratory readings. The VMA can handle an unlimited number of patients and caregivers. Multiple caregivers can get the same patient data at the same time through any smart device.
Healthcare providers are under continuous pressure to deliver better care at a lower price while the aging population creates an increased demand for care. It’s estimated that about half of the 800,000 community hospital beds in the US are currently unmonitored. Sensiotec’s breakthrough telemedicine technology makes possible the extension of large scale monitoring to this underserved population, as well as in long-term care facilities and home care.
The scalability and ease of deployment make the VMA a disruptive mHealth technology that can fundamentally change the way bedside care is delivered. Sensiotec CTO and Georgia Institute of Technology Smart Antenna Laboratory Founder and Director Dr. Mary Ann Ingram states, “With our patented Ultra-wideband technology, science fiction has become fact. Practical high-precision non-contact vital signs monitoring and patient movement and fall detection is now a reality, almost like a Star Trek tricorder.”
Sensiotec CEO Robert Arkin states, “We’re excited by the opportunity with the Virtual Medical Assistant to make a difference in people’s lives through improved disease management, while also addressing society’s need to help contain healthcare costs.”
