Nuvon® Improves Time for Patient Care in the Emergency Department, Providing Better Patient Triage and Supporting In

Nuvon’s VEGA™ Platform is the leader in enterprise device data integration, connecting patient biomedical devices with electronic medical records (EMR) and clinical information systems (CIS)

PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Nuvon, Inc. (www.nuvon.com), a provider of next generation BMDI (biomedical device interoperability) solutions, succeeded in helping Good Shepherd Medical Center to improve care and efficiency in its emergency department (ED). Based in Longview, Texas, Good Shepherd Medical Center is a Level II Trauma Center that covers the northeastern corner of Texas, extending north to Oklahoma and east to Louisiana.

With more than 80 percent of Good Shepherd’s admissions coming from the ED, a great deal of the success of the hospital is dependent upon the operational efficiency of its ED. Recognizing the opportunities for workflow efficiencies and improved patient care that could be obtained in the busy ED, hospital management authorized installation of the Nuvon VEGA Platform in September of 2009.

The VEGA Platform provides a complete interoperability solution that is designed to securely capture and transmit biomedical patient device data at the patient’s bedside to the EMR and other clinical information systems, according to the workflow requirements of a given installation. In addition, Nuvon’s interoperability platform provides automated device identification with Autoinstallation™ and Autodiscovery™ features, eliminating manual set-up and configuration.

Says Nuvon President and CEO Cathleen Asch, “Nuvon’s VEGA Platform solves several critical problems that clinicians face every day:

  1. reduction in manual transcription errors based on the automated collection of data, so better, more accurate data are available sooner for better decision-making;
  2. positive patient identification for enhanced patient safety; and
  3. real-time, secure availability of the patient care data wherever the clinician is.”

Nuvon’s transformative and truly interoperable machine-to-machine (M2M) platform for next generation device connectivity and data integration is:

  • Device independent and operating system agnostic
  • Scalable with robust security policies to monitor thousands of devices
  • Designed for ease of integration
  • Automated for a traceable audit trail for all data and actions
  • An open architecture, enabling user and third party development

Clinicians and providers can make better informed clinical decisions with more accurate and readily available information. Integration adapts to individual workflows so users are not captive to the technology. Automatic capture of the data eliminates manual data entry and the potential for errors, and frees more time for clinicians to focus on care of their patients.

Visit Nuvon at Booth #1645, at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual meeting in Orlando, Florida, February 20-24, 2011, for a demonstration of the VEGA Platform. To see Nuvon’s true interoperability in action, visit the HIMSS11 Interoperability Showcase in the Exhibition Hall.
