Midwest Hospital CEO Compensation Nears $500,000 Average

August 9, 2011 - CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Chief executive officers of non-profit hospitals in the Midwest earn average compensation of nearly $481,000. That's significantly less than their counterparts in California, according to a new white paper and database available from healthcare publishers Payers & Providers and MCOL. However, many hospital CEOs throughout the Midwest earn millions of dollars in base salary and additional compensation.

Payers & Providers examined the tax returns of more than 700 non-profit hospitals in 10 Midwestern states for its white paper, and the compensation of each CEO in relation to the size of their hospital and its overall finances have been rendered in spreadsheet format. The report was authored by Payers & Providers Midwest Editor Duncan Moore, a veteran of the Kansas City Star, Bloomberg News and Modern Healthcare. The data was compiled by MCOL.

"This white paper is a valuable resource for the hospital community," said Payers & Providers Publisher Ron Shinkman, who authored a landmark hospital compensation survey for Payers & Providers' California edition in 2010 that was reported on in the Los Angeles Times and other major publications. "With the Internal Revenue Service taking an ever-closer look at executive compensation at non-profit healthcare entities, it pays to know who is earning what - and why."

The white paper is available for purchase for $149, and the data is available for $249. The paper and data may be purchased in a package or on a state-by-state basis at a discount. Online ordering and additional information is available at www.HealthExecStore.com by clicking the Payers & Providers link.

Both the white paper and data are free for members of the media by e-mailing a request to [email protected].
