Med students still avoid internal medicine careers

Even though more medical students in 2007 than in 1990 reported better experiences with internal medicine during their training, and viewed IM as potentially meaningful career, they continue to shy away from pursuing that field, concludes a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine that compares med students' attitudes about internal medicine in 1990 and 2007. Med students' plans to practice general IM have dropped from 9 percent to 2 percent. Abstract
