Healthcare Industry Veteran Jack Kowitt Joins PHNS

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- PHNS, the leading independent provider of comprehensive healthcare information technology (IT) services and business process solutions for hospitals and other healthcare providers, today announced the appointment of Jack Kowitt as Executive Vice President.

An accomplished healthcare IT executive, Mr. Kowitt has three decades of industry experience and a proven track record helping hospitals and health systems create the technology infrastructure they need to operate more efficiently and support a higher level of patient care and medical accuracy.

Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Parkland Health & Hospital System for eight years. During his tenure, Mr. Kowitt led a complete overhaul of Parkland’s IT systems and its implementation of electronic medical records, which significantly improved the delivery of medical care throughout the hospital system. This included retraining more than 6,500 staff and providers, and creating a new operating model that changed the way applications were designed and implemented at Parkland. As a result, Parkland became one of the first integrated health systems in North Texas to launch electronic medical records system-wide supported by a completely wireless network.

Throughout his career, Mr. Kowitt has also held senior leadership roles at Superior Consultant Company (now part of ACS), Samaritan Health System, IBAX Healthcare Systems, Loma Linda University Medical Center, The Mount Sinai Health System (NYC), and State University of New York.

Mr. Kowitt has a proven ability to create and implement systems and tools that make the most effective use of information captured by modern electronic health records to improve overall operations and the standard of care. At PHNS, he will leverage this extensive experience to help clients maximize performance and efficiency by improving service delivery.

“Jack’s strong technology background and intimate knowledge of the healthcare industry will be invaluable to PHNS as we help our healthcare clients build and realize the maximum value from the technology resources they need to drive operational performance and meet new compliance standards,” said Richard S. Garnick, Chief Executive Officer of PHNS. “We welcome him to the company and look forward to his leadership and many contributions.”
