Connexall Connects Patients’ Comfort, Safety, and Well-Being at Disney Cancer Center

Innovative treatment center showcases industry’s most robust automated connectivity solution to fulfill mission of providing relaxing environment for patients

TORONTO & BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Connexall®, a leader in enterprise middleware for healthcare alarm management, lean-enabling workflow automation, and comprehensive reporting, is helping to improve patient satisfaction at one of the nation’s foremost cancer treatment facilities. The technology enables patients at the Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center, located in Burbank, California, to experience less anxiety and stress during their treatment.

Connexall provides a unified communications platform for devices, building management software, and patient data systems. The pioneering RFID system leverages ThingMagic passive readers that read patient ID badges as they enter or leave specific areas. Reva Systems TAP technology then processes and interprets this information, determines patient location, and notifies AeroScout's MobileView software. MobileView acts as the solution's aggregation and information distribution point, associating each badge with a specific person, maintaining a rules-based event engine and sending alerts to the appropriate staff. RFID tag information also triggers patient room temperature preferences through Johnson Controls P2000 building management, and sends text notifications to Avaya Voice over IP phones, letting staff know, for example, that a patient is ready for treatment.

This creates an exceptional patient experience, adjusting the lighting, music, and room temperature automatically when the patient enters the room, while improving workflow communication between patients and staff. “We designed every element of the center to help alleviate stress,” commented Ray Lowe, regional director of IS operation, Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center and the Disney Cancer Center. “Everything happens behind the scenes, invisible to patients, but the experience the RFID solution enables us to deliver has a strong impact on each patient's mood and state of mind,” he added.
