Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Recovers More Than $300 million in AR with Hyland Software's OnBase

OnBase is a part of a larger health system strategy to improve productivity and reduce AR days

CLEVELAND, June 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, ranked one of the best healthcare organizations in the country, recovered more than $300 million by reducing net accounts receivable days with the help of OnBase, Hyland Software's enterprise content management (ECM) solution. Cedars-Sinai partnered with Hyland to provide a common revenue cycle management platform to seamlessly post payments across multiple billing systems that were in place for both hospital and physician facilities. OnBase consolidates payment posting and streamlines denial management by consolidating various billing systems into a single platform with integration to Epic Resolute.

By increasing the efficiency of the patient financial services (PFS) team, Cedars-Sinai saves more than $400,000 per year and reassigned eight full-time employees to more valuable, revenue-generating tasks. Instead of requiring a team to manage payment posting for each facility and respective billing system, Cedars-Sinai now has one team that uses OnBase to post all payments to the respective systems, doubling the bandwidth of the PFS team without additional resources.

"Enabling our RCM team to work from a single interface is critical to its success and ultimately the smooth acquisition of hospitals and physician practices," said Sambasiva Panditaradyula, systems manager at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. "We increased our efficiency and reallocated more than 25 percent of our RCM staff to focus on more revenue-generating tasks. We also reduced our net accounts receivable days from more than 100 to less than 62. This type of transformation in an organization of this size is phenomenal."

In addition to creating a single interface capable of posting payments to multiple billing systems, clinical staff also uses OnBase to provide access to the complete patient record, including electronic reports from the laboratory and radiology departments, digital photographs, video files of cardiac catheterizations and audio recordings of heartbeats. The EMR integrations enable staff members to easily access this content directly from the EMR interface, empowering healthcare providers to deliver superior patient care.
