One of the top leaders at Walmart's shuttered healthcare unit is making the jump to value-based care company Lumeris.
David Carmouche, M.D., served as the senior vice president of healthcare delivery at the retail giant, where he was tasked with leading the charge on its developing brick-and-mortar care centers as well as its virtual care services.
Walmart revealed it was pulling the plug on its healthcare clinics in late April.
At Lumeris, Carmouche will step into the role of executive vice president and chief clinical transformation officer. He'll lead the team's efforts to drive physician and patient adoption of Lumeris' clinical solutions. The company works with providers to accelerate the transformation to value-based care by sharing risk and operational needs.
"When I evaluated value-based care organizations across the country, it was clear that Lumeris represents the best opportunity to deliver a truly scalable, technology-enabled solution that can reach every American, no matter where they are in their healthcare journey, and lead them to a healthier life," said Carmouche in a press release.
"The adoption of value-based care is hard, but there is no better solution that aligns the needs of patients, providers, and purchasers of health care services," he continued. "I am excited to join Lumeris and contribute to its critical mission to fulfill the promise of value-based care nationally."
In addition to his experience working at Walmart, Carmouche has also held leadership roles at Ochsner Health System and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana. At the insurer, he was a key player in launching its first value-based contracts, Lumeris said.
"David is truly a remarkable healthcare leader, clinician and person, with a tenacious resolve to improve patient outcomes," said Mike Long, chairman and CEO of Lumeris, in the press release. He passionately believes in engaging patients where they are and freeing up physicians to focus on their areas of expertise. Having David on the team accelerates our journey to improving our country's healthcare system."
