Banks to offer help in PHR dissemination

The banking industry, already well-versed in protecting sensitive online personal information, is looking to offer its vast online customer service network as a means of delivering personal health records to the masses, Baseline magazine/eWeek reports. Via a program dubbed the Medical Banking Project, the financial sector has had talks with America's Health Insurance Plans and is said to be planning meetings in March with regional healthcare organizations. "The banking industry isn't going to be developing new PHR technology, but what they do have the ability to do is to distribute that technology to 55 million online banking customers," Medical Banking Project head John Casillas told the publications. However, the project only plans on running a small-scale demonstration, then let individual banks and RHIOs learn from the results.
