Grants for facilities in Tucson, Flagstaff and Yuma to improve care coordination, use of electronic medical records, among other efforts

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- UnitedHealthcare of Arizona has donated $125,000 to three children’s medical facilities to help them expand and improve their electronic medical records systems, e-prescribing and practice management capabilities.

All three grant recipients are designated as Children’s Rehabilitative Services medical facilities: Tucson Children’s Clinics, Flagstaff Medical Center Children’s Health Center and Yuma Regional Medical Center Children’s Rehabilitative Services.

Pat Walz, president and CEO of Yuma Regional Medical Center, said the grant will spur technological improvements at the facility.

“This donation from UnitedHealthcare will help our organization invest in technology and process improvements that will enhance patient care and safety,” he said. “We appreciate this support and are excited about what this means for residents in Yuma and local children.”

“These three facilities provide crucial medical care to children with medically complex needs throughout Arizona,” said Jeri Jones, CEO, UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual of Arizona. “We know these grants will further strengthen and enhance these organizations’ abilities to deliver high-quality medical care, service and innovation.”

“This donation will help improve the health and well-being of children and families in Tucson, and we look forward to enhancing our organization’s ability to provide high-quality health care services,” said Jill Bemis, CEO, Tucson Children’s Clinics, which provides care for children with complex health care needs, including a wide range of quality, family-centered services.

The grant will also benefit residents in Northern Arizona, where Flagstaff Medical Center Children’s Health Center will use the funds to expand use of electronic medical records.

“We are going to significantly update our current practice management system and implement an electronic medical record platform that will enable us to improve care to the patients we serve,” said Joanne Parkes, director of Flagstaff Medical Center Children’s Health Center. “We are pleased to work with UnitedHealthcare on such an important project.”
