SimplePractice, an EHR and practice management platform, is expanding into the psychiatry space with the launch of a new prescription management tool.
The launch of the latest product, ePrescribe, follows the company’s acquisition of Luminello, an EHR and practice management platform for mental health professionals. By incorporating ePrescribe and other Luminello workflows specific to psychiatry with its base software, SimplePractice can serve psychiatrists.
Clinicians can now prescribe medication, access a patient’s medication history and order refills. With the integration of prescription management into their practice management workflow, SimplePractice aims to significantly streamline clinicians’ workflow, SimplePractice President Jonathan Seltzer told Fierce Healthcare over email.
“Both SimplePractice and Luminello were founded by clinicians who knew the administrative burdens facing practitioners firsthand and wanted to develop a way to help alleviate them,” he said. “ePrescribe … is a step forward in SimplePractice’s commitment to building trust within this community.”
The company’s goal is to help empower solo and small group practitioners to remain independent. Demand for mental health treatment is at an all-time high. Yet, in a 2023 survey, SimplePractice found that three-quarters of mental health professionals who have experienced burnout say they’re hesitant to take on more acute patients. Among the top contributors are administrative burdens.
SimplePractice has grown its customer base by more than 50% in two years. In 2023, it launched a continuing education subscription for customers. It also rolled out a mentor matchmaking pilot program in California. The company serves 200,000 health and wellness practitioners today.
