Baylor Quality Alliance (BQA), a wholly-controlled affiliate of Baylor Health Care System, has selected Humedica MinedShare from Optum to improve quality of patient care and reduce costs for the patients and communities served as it works to become a clinically integrated accountable care organization.

BQA will also participate in the American Medical Group Association’s (AMGA) Anceta Collaborative to enhance shared learning with other AMGA members.

BQA will use Humedica MinedShare to extract, normalize and provide detailed analytics of clinical and administrative data from health care payers, various electronic health record systems and Baylor Health Care System’s health information exchange. This will enable care teams at BQA to see an integrated view of patient experiences and outcomes across the entire continuum of care. Health professionals at BQA can use these insights to identify people at risk of developing chronic illnesses or hospitalization, supporting efforts to intervene proactively.

Humedica MinedShare analytics will also provide robust metrics to help health professionals at BQA better understand population health dynamics and the health care needs of the 3.3 million people in the communities Baylor Health Care System serves.

“We are committed to improving the quality of health care for our patients, while reducing the costs. By utilizing Humedica MindShare we are able to gain access to actionable data, which allows us to identify gaps in care, improve provider performance and coordinate appropriate care. Having access to this type of clinical data is crucial to our success as an accountable care organization,” said Carl Couch, M.D., MMM, FAAFP, president of BQA.

Rick Dean, vice president of Provider Solutions at Humedica, said, “BQA’s work toward clinical integration, evidence-based care and population health management will result in efficient, quality care for its patients. We are excited to provide our products and services to a member of one of the country’s leading health care organizations to leverage data that will enhance care and reduce costs.”

“We are very pleased to have Baylor Quality Alliance joining the growing number of participants in AMGA’s Anceta collaborative, which focuses on the practical application of Humedica’s rich comparative data to improve population health and care for patients,” added John Cuddeback, M.D., Ph.D., AMGA’s Chief Medical Informatics Officer.
