SCAN plans to expand Medicare Advantage offerings into Texas

SCAN Health Plan will bring its Medicare Advantage coverage to Texas next year.

The insurer announced Friday that it will offer MA plans in the Lone Star State for the 2023 plan year, entering two counties: Bexar County and Harris County. It is also planning to expand into another county in Nevada, Nye County.

The expansion is pending regulatory approvals but would bring SCAN's total reach to nearly 7 million potential members across five states and 20 markets.

“SCAN is on trajectory of rapid growth,” said Sachin Jain, M.D., president and CEO of SCAN Group and SCAN Health Plan, in a statement. “With the record-breaking AEP season, we experienced last year, we are keenly aware of what older adults are looking for in their Medicare Advantage plan—and we are poised to deliver.”

The expansion is a key part of SCAN's overall growth and diversification effort, the insurer said. The move into new markets is driven by invites from health systems and medical groups that align with SCAN's approach to benefits and care.

Earlier this year, SCAN made its first-ever acquisition in The Residentialist Group, a deal that allowed it to launch a new home health provider, Homebase Medical. SCAN has also made a number of strategic investments of late, including into MedArrive, SafeRide Health and Monogram Health.

“SCAN values building strong, long-standing relationships with its provider partners that translate into improved care for our members,” said Karen Schulte, SCAN’s senior vice president of network management, in a statement. “As SCAN and its reputation continues to grow, it garners the attention of potential partners across the country who align with our mission to keep seniors healthy and independent.”
