Priority Health discloses December cybersecurity breach

Michigan-based insurer Priority Health has disclosed a cybersecurity breach in which an "unauthorized individual" accessed several member portal accounts.

Priority Health said in an announcement it discovered the breach on Dec. 16. The person may have viewed members' names, dates of birth, addresses, phone numbers, insurance information, claims information and some limited medical information.

There is no evidence that this person viewed Social Security numbers, and the investigation has not uncovered evidence of misuse. However, Priority Health has alerted all members and employers who may have been affected by the breach and is offering them safeguard services, such as a two-year membership to Experian IdentityWorks.

Upon discovering the incident, Priority Health put all member accounts on hold from Dec. 16 to Dec. 21 to ensure all accounts were secure. Priority Health has been working with cybersecurity experts to beef up security to prevent incidents in the future.

As an additional security measure, Priority Health has rolled out multifactor authentication for all of its member portal accounts on Jan. 18.

Any member who is concerned that their information is at risk is urged to contact Priority Health at [email protected] or the dedicated phone line, 1-800-942-0954.
