Humana's CenterWell to open 3 clinics in Louisville next year

Humana's CenterWell will bring its senior-focused medical clinics to Kentucky with plans to open three locations over the next several months in Louisville.

CenterWell Senior Primary Care offers value-based and senior-centric medical care, including a personalized, care-team approach. Humana said it will open the three new clinics in Louisville by mid-2023.

Humana said CenterWell is one the fastest-growing providers in this space nationwide. Alongside its sister company, Conviva Care Centers, the company offers care at 220 clinics across 11 states and intends to open between 30 and 50 clinics each year through 2025.

“The senior population in Louisville continues to grow, and there’s a major need for primary care that is aimed specifically at this segment,” said Nick Judd, president of CenterWell’s Kentucky market, in the release. “With our focus on underserved communities, we bring a new level of access to quality, coordinated care for seniors in this important market.”

Taking an integrated, care-team approach enables CenterWell clinics to get a fuller picture of the factors impacting a patient's health, said Erica Savage-Jeter, M.D., regional medical director, in the announcement.

"For example, if a senior is having issues getting to the doctor or accessing nutritious food, a social worker can provide resources for transportation and food assistance," Savage-Jeter said. "Behavioral specialists provide mental health services and pharmacists help patients understand how to take their medications and minimize medication costs.”

In addition to offering medical services, CenterWell locations include a community center with education and socialization for seniors who visit, Humana said.

The new clinics are also looking to fill a number of positions and are hiring primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, front office staff and others.
