Express Scripts taps veteran supply chain exec as new president

Express Scripts has a new president, Evernorth, its parent company, announced Wednesday.

Adam Kautzner, who previously served as the pharmacy benefit management giant's senior vice president of supply chain, has been promoted to the president role, Evernorth said. As a key supply chain leader, Kautzner brings experience leading the company's pharmaceutical and retail network contracting for Express Scripts Pharmacy as well as Accredo Specialty Pharmacy.

Kautzner also previously held the roles of chief pharma trade relations officer and vice president of supply chain product and strategy.

"Adam's deep expertise in all areas of pharmacy benefit management, including pharma relations, formulary development and value-based pharmacy network contracting, will drive us forward as we improve patient outcomes and unlock pharmacy savings for all those we serve," said Eric Palmer, CEO of Evernorth, in the release.

"Adam has always been a forward-thinker in a rapidly evolving market and his ability to innovate solutions to complex challenges and his proven leadership skills will accelerate our growth as we serve more people and impact more lives," Palmer added.

Kautzner succeeds Amy Bricker, who became president of Express Scripts in 2020 and has been with the PBM for nearly a decade. The release doesn't mention what's next for Bricker, and she is no longer listed on the leadership page for Express Scripts.

Bricker also held supply chain leadership roles at Express Scripts before becoming president and in 2021 was named one of Fierce Healthcare's Women of Influence.

Evernorth, a subsidiary of Cigna, houses the company's healthcare services arms including Express Scripts, Accredo, MDLive for telehealth, eviCore data analytics and more.
