Elevance Health adds ACA plans in Florida, Maryland, Texas

Elevance Health subsidiary WellPoint announced the company is debuting individual marketplace plans in Florida, Maryland and Texas.

These new plans will be available during open enrollment for the 2025 coverage year. Wellpoint plans will be offered in 48 counties in Texas and Florida, evenly distributed between the two states.

"Our organization has been at the forefront of healthcare innovation by designing health benefits to address diverse health needs and ensuring access to affordable, quality healthcare," said Steve Martenet, president of individual business for Elevance Health, in a statement. “For the first time, we are now offering Floridians a suite of comprehensive individual health plans, giving them additional options to protect themselves and their families.”

In Texas, the company has operated for nearly 30 years.

“At Wellpoint, we believe that everyone deserves access to affordable and quality healthcare,” said Wellpoint Texas President Greg Thompson in a simultaneous news release. “Our local presence enables us to design our benefits and programs to fit the unique health needs of each community we serve, and we are excited to expand access to quality healthcare to even more Texans.”

Wellpoint ACA plans will be available in every Maryland county, a spokesperson told Fierce Healthcare. Medicaid enrollees in Maryland through the state exchange increased 17.4% from 2023 to 204.

Wellpoint Maryland President Darrell Gray, M.D., said it was the largest increase of health plan enrollees in state history.

After rebranding Anthem as Elevance Health, last year its Amerigroup segment continued to rebrand as Wellpoint.
