CVS taps former Humana exec Brian Kane to lead Aetna

CVS Health has named a veteran insurance executive to lead its Aetna unit, the healthcare giant announced Monday.

Brian Kane will join CVS as executive vice president and president of Aetna effective Sept. 1, according to the announcement. He'll report to CVS Health CEO Karen Lynch on the core executive team, the company said.

Kane will succeed Daniel Finke, who will leave the role for health reasons. Finke has spent a decade at Aetna and has been integral to the growth of several of its business lines. Finke will work alongside Kane to ensure the transition goes smoothly, according to the announcement.

"Brian has a track record of bringing customer-driven innovations to the market and delivering strong operating improvements," said Lynch in the release. "His passion to simplify the health care experience will advance our strategy to improve health, lower costs and drive higher levels of engagement among our members."

Kane served most recently as a strategic consultant to multiple private equity firms in the healthcare space. Prior to that, he was the chief financial officer at Medicare Advantage insurer Humana, where he oversaw its primary care business and played a key role in executing multiple strategic focuses at the company.

Before joining Humana, Kane spent 17 years in the investment banking division of Goldman Sachs.

"CVS Health has a unique collection of assets—including the Aetna business—that provide the opportunity to improve access to quality health care for all Americans," said Kane. "My focus will be working with talented colleagues across the organization to help build on existing efforts to make health care simple, personalized and affordable."
