CVS Health is rolling out a new customer app that aims to make it simpler and more convenient for users to manage health benefits, pharmacy benefits and prescriptions.

Within the application, users can monitor prescriptions for themselves as well as family members across CVS' pharmacies, Caremark mail orders and CVS Specialty. This includes "full transparency" into the status of a prescription order and the cost, CVS said.
In addition, users can schedule key immunizations for their entire family, and access spending and benefits details from both Aetna and Caremark through the app.
"We want that app to be the center of all the digital interactions that consumers ... have with us," Tony Ambrozie, senior vice president and chief digital and technology officer for CVS Health's pharmacy and consumer wellness division, told Fierce Healthcare. "One place where everybody knows to go to and get all the things that we can provide for them."
When users boot up the app, they'll be greeted by a redesigned home screen that includes personalized recommendations on a "to-do" list, including reminders about medication refills, upcoming appointments and potential savings, according to the company.
The app also includes an artificial-intelligence-powered search tool that can connect users with local products, services and information both from CVS and third parties, according to the company. Members can also access educational articles from Everyday Health and guided meditations from Headspace.
CVS said that it rolled out many of these features across 2024. Ambrozie said that while some members felt a bit of whiplash with the pace of updates at first, once they were able to get their arms around the changes, it became more "exciting" for customers to use.
Over the course of the past year, CVS is already seeing greater interest in the app. It currently has 14.1 million monthly users. Active users have increased 22% compared to a year ago, and downloads have increased by 23%.
The team intends to continue adding new tools to its app throughout the year, too. Plans include supports for people with chronic conditions, including personalized recommendations for educational materials and more transparency into cost savings and potential copay programs.
It's also looking to roll out a new AI chatbot that can provide information on prescriptions, order status and refills, as well as additional integration with services provided by Aetna, Caremark and other segments within CVS Health.
Ambrozie said the redesigned app experience is part of CVS' broader push toward offering an integrated, easy-to-navigate set of services for its customers and plan members.
"This is the digital center of all the things that we're trying to do," he said. "Everything is going to be here."
