Bright Health expands leadership team with addition of 2 execs

Bright Health Group is expanding its leadership team with the addition of two new executives.

Michael Carson will join the insurtech company as the CEO of Bright HealthCare and Jeff Cook will take the role of NeueHealth CEO, Bright Health announced this week. Both will report to Bright Health Group CEO Mike Mikan and will officially join the organization next month.

The goal is to bolster leadership of both business arms as Bright HealthCare continues to build scale and NeueHealth "emerges as a differentiated market player," Bright Health said.

“Michael and Jeff both bring strong expertise in their respective domains, and most importantly, have a passion for and expertise in fully aligned, value-based care,” said Mikan in a statement. “As we embark on this next phase of Bright Health Group’s journey, we are excited to have these two phenomenal leaders join our already deep bench of talent within Bright HealthCare and NeueHealth.”

Sam Srivastava, the current CEO of NeueHealth, will stay on with Bright Health through the end of this month to ensure a smooth transition. Bright HealthCare CEO Jay Matushak will return to the chief financial officer role and will take on an expanded range of responsibilities.

Carson brings significant payer and provider experience to the role, having served most recently as the CEO of CareAbout, a multispecialty and primary care startup. He also previously held positions at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Anthem and ConcertoHealth.

Cook held a number of roles at CVS Health and brings a background in value-based care to the new role. He also held leadership roles at UnitedHealthcare and Ascension Health.
