WellPoint Named One of Top 50 U.S. Companies by LATINA Style Magazine

INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- WellPoint, Inc, (NYSE: WLP) has been recognized as one of the top 50 U.S. companies that provide the best opportunities for professional Latinas in the workplace by LATINA Style Magazine.

"I am honored that WellPoint has been named to the LATINA Style 50 (LS50) report for the third year. This ongoing recognition reflects WellPoint's commitment to diversity and to providing opportunities for our diverse workforce," said Linda Jimenez, Chief Diversity Officer and staff vice president, Diversity & Inclusion, WellPoint, Inc. "By focusing on diversity in our talent acquisition process and by providing an inclusive culture and environment for our diverse associates, WellPoint's workforce is more reflective of our members, and we are better able to attain our mission of improving the lives of the people we serve and the health of our communities."

WellPoint is ranked 17th on the LS50 report. The report was created in the spirit of bringing awareness of Latina talent and contribution to the success of their companies and is the most respected evaluation of corporate America's employment opportunities and policies as they pertain to Latinas. Companies are evaluated on a variety of issues, including the number of Hispanic women executives and board members, Hispanic community outreach, employee benefits and mentorship and leadership programs.

"Latinas' climb to the upper echelons of the corporate ladder has been severely impaired by the harsh economic conditions in today's market," says Robert E. Bard, President and CEO of LATINA Style, Inc. "We commend the companies that despite the economic and market pressures have made significant efforts to maintain or even increase Latina representation in their upper ranks."

More than 800 of the most prominent corporations in the United States were included in the extensive review process.
