Vital Care Applauds Congressional Delegates for Fighting for Mississippi’s Chronic Care Patients

MERIDIAN, Miss.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Vital Care CEO Len Branham today issued the following statement commending members of the Mississippi congressional delegation for championing efforts to prevent a rule change proposed by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that threatens the health of chronic care patients in Mississippi and across the country.

“On behalf of the state of Mississippi’s thousands of chronic care patients, I want to applaud Vital Care’s members of Congress for their efforts to halt a CMS rule change that would jeopardize patient access to pain medications used in implanted pain pumps. Rep. Gregg Harper and Sens. Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker were successful in postponing the change to CMS’s payment policy manual that was slated to go into effect on June 29. The change would have prohibited Medicare from reimbursing specialized pharmacies for the pain medications used in implanted pain pumps. Implanted pain pumps have been life changing for many chronic care patients throughout the state of Mississippi and across the United States. Thanks to our congressmen in Washington, CMS has now delayed the change in policy for 45 days. I commend Rep. Harper and Sens. Wicker and Cochran for their efforts and I urge CMS to use this 45 day window to explore the impact that this rule change would have on many the nation’s most vulnerable Medicare beneficiaries.”
