- Diabetes Prevention Program now available to state employees
- Arizona one of the first state governments in the nation to join innovative program to prevent and manage diabetes and prediabetes
PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Arizona has become one of the first state governments in the nation to join UnitedHealthcare in saying “NOT ME” to diabetes by offering state employees access to a proven program to help prevent and more effectively manage type 2 diabetes.
“NOT ME” from the Diabetes Prevention and Control Alliance (DPCA) is an employer- and community-based initiative aimed at tipping the scales against the epidemic of diabetes, prediabetes and obesity. DPCA was launched in 2010 through a partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), UnitedHealth Group and YMCA of the USA.
The “NOT ME” personal health initiative is anchored by the Diabetes Prevention Program, an evidence-based program proven to help prevent and control type 2 diabetes. The Diabetes Prevention Program is an innovative lifestyle coaching program conducted in a group setting through the Y that helps people with prediabetes and who are at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes prevent or delay the disease through healthy eating, increased physical activity and other lifestyle changes. It is a year-long program with 16 weekly sessions plus monthly follow-ups. This is part of the National Diabetes Prevention Program led by CDC.
The State of Arizona joins more than 25 other Arizona employers who have enrolled in the Alliance since its launch in 2010.

The Arizona Department of Health Services estimates 8.5 percent of the Arizona’s adult population statewide has diabetes. Nationally, nearly 26 million people, or 8.3 percent of the population, have diabetes, and 79 million Americans have prediabetes, according to the CDC.
