Narrow networks spur legal action against Anthem Blue Cross

Signifying consumer pushback against narrow networks, Consumer Watchdog has hit California's Anthem Blue Cross with a class-action lawsuit for allegedly misleading millions of members about whether physicians and hospitals were participating in new plan networks, Kaiser Health News reported. The lawsuit also claims Anthem delayed giving consumers full information until it was too late for them to switch coverage, KHN noted.

Anthem declined to comment directly on the lawsuit but said it will pay the claims of members received treatment from incorrectly listed doctors during the first three months of the year. Amid the growing complaints about inadequate networks, Anthem  has added almost 4,000 providers, including major hospitals like UC Davis Medical Center and Cedars Sinai Medical Center, to its network this year.
