Molina Healthcare of California Selected to Participate in Dual Eligible Demonstration Project

LONG BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Molina Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE: MOH) today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Molina Healthcare of California (MHC), has been selected by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) to participate as an integrated health plan in California’s proposed demonstration project to provide healthcare services for beneficiaries who are eligible for both Medi-Cal and Medicare (dual-eligible beneficiaries) in San Diego County. In addition to San Diego County, Los Angeles County was also selected by DHCS for a dual-eligible demonstration project. MHC will participate in the Los Angeles County dual-eligible pilot program as a subcontracted health plan.

“Molina Healthcare of California is very pleased to have been selected by DHCS,” said Lisa Rubino, president of Molina Healthcare of California. “We believe that the dual eligible population will benefit from coordinated care, making their lives simpler and improving their health outcomes. In the coming months, Molina Healthcare will continue to work with the State of California as it has for over 30 years to ensure this vulnerable population has access to quality health care.”

In a letter to Molina Healthcare, DHCS wrote, “Over the past seven years, Molina has operated a Medicare Advantage D-SNP, providing strong experience coordinating both Medicare and Medi-Cal benefits for dual eligibles. The department believe this background will provide a strong foundation for the proposed demonstration in San Diego County.”

In addition to San Diego and Los Angeles counties, Molina Healthcare also operates health plans in Riverside, San Bernardino, and Sacramento, with membership as of December 31, 2011 of approximately 346,000.

The demonstration start date is expected to be January 1, 2013.
