Breakthrough Technology Enables Active Online and Mobile Well-Being Coaching
Extends Commitment to Digital Innovation through Strategic Agreement with Roundarch
NASHVILLE, Tenn. & CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Healthways (Nasdaq: HWAY) today announced the introduction of significant new online and mobile capabilities for the Company’s industry-leading EmbraceTM 5.0 platform. The result of a year-long development effort with Roundarch, Well-Being ConnectTM and wellbeingGoTM will begin being rolled out for existing Embrace users later this month. As a result of the successful development effort, the Company also announced it has entered into a five-year, $50 million strategic agreement with Roundarch. Under the terms of the agreement, the partnership will be responsible for collaborative design, and Roundarch will be responsible for the development, testing, deployment, maintenance and operations for both current and future versions of web, mobile and social applications for Embrace.
“The effective use of digital technology is a key component of Embrace,” said Healthways president and CEO, Ben R. Leedle, Jr. “But, the last thing our customers need is another static medical information website. What they require, and what we will provide, is a total digital experience that will create and sustain engagement for the individuals we serve and, even more importantly, provide a platform for new interactions that will enhance overall results and extend the scalability of our Well-Being Improvement Solution®”.
Healthways Well-Being Connect is a guided online experience that improves individual well-being. Far from a generic health portal, Well-Being Connect is a personal behavior change application. Consumers can understand and explore their own well-being while connecting with peers and health professionals to pursue shared goals. Personal Well-Being Plans and other online tools create and strengthen healthy behaviors through a combination of leading consumer engagement strategies and deeply embedded behavior change science. The wellbeingGO mobile application will allow users to interact wherever they are and whenever they choose.
“We picked Roundarch to work with us because of their demonstrated success for companies such as Avis, HBO, Bloomberg Sports, Motorola and the U.S. Air Force in developing sites and applications that effectively recruit consumers, provide them with a stellar experience and keep them coming back,” Leedle added. “The effective use of online and mobile technology as well-being improvement interventions that actually drive results represents a significant breakthrough. Achieving that goal required capabilities far beyond those of typical web-design firms and would not have been accomplished without the innovative capabilities and commitment of the Roundarch team.
“Our new strategic relationship with Roundarch represents the logical next step in developing the full digital potential of Embrace and is fully complementary with our previously announced initiatives with HealthHonors, MeYou Health, MedNetworks and Hewlett-Packard. Roundarch’s deep experience with creating highly innovative and highly scalable digital products will allow Healthways to continuously enhance the appeal, effectiveness and time to market of these applications. Through the combination and coordination of the work of these organizations, we are confident that Embrace will deliver an unequaled consumer and customer experience that drives results.”
In addition to providing Healthways with its award-winning strategy, design and implementation capabilities, Roundarch will commit the resources of the Roundarch Labs to continuous innovation in the application of digital technology to Healthways Well-Being Improvement Solution. Roundarch Labs is dedicated to exploring emerging technologies -- such as wearable computers, gaming interfaces and mobile applications – and new technology standards, such as HTML 5 and the semantic web. The long-term relationship with Healthways will allow Roundarch to dedicate more resources to exploring these technologies and how they relate to the health care sector generally and to Healthways value proposition specifically.
“We firmly believe that successfully overcoming the challenges of rampant cost inflation in health care faced by America and other nations depends on finding ways to keep people as healthy as possible for as long as possible,” said Jeff Maling, president and chief experience officer at Roundarch. “Healthways is a clear innovator in the health care sector, in general, and the well-being sector, in particular. We are excited to have a long-term strategic relationship with Healthways that will allow us to drive digital innovation and make an important and meaningful contribution to helping them achieve that goal.”
