Health Net Sponsors the 3rd National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic in San Diego

Health Net Partner and Singer, Barry Michael, Will Perform His Heroes and Angels Tribute

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Health Net Federal Services, LLC, part of the Government Contracts segment of Health Net, Inc. (NYSE:HNT), and MHN (Managed Health Network, Inc.), Health Net’s behavioral health subsidiary, today announced their national sponsorship of the 3rd National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic, to be held September 19 - 25, 2010, in San Diego, Calif.

“Health Net is dedicated to improving the quality of life for America’s Veterans by supporting programs that help Veterans achieve a healthy life and improved spirit,” said Steve Tough, president of Government Programs, Health Net, Inc. “Sponsoring the 3rd National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic is an excellent opportunity for us to give back to Veterans who have sacrificed so much.”

In addition, Nashville recording artist Barry Michael is partnering with Health Net to encourage Veterans to use rehabilitation therapy, including behavioral health support, to confront their challenges and to achieve their goals. Tough added, “We want to encourage Veterans and military families to use the various behavioral resources and tools available to them to help them thrive in the face of adversity. We are honored to have Barry sing his patriotic and inspiring song, Heroes and Angels, to all clinic attendees in San Diego.” Health Net Federal Services’ website is the only site where his song, Heroes and Angels, can be downloaded free of charge.

Because Health Net recognizes the benefits of a holistic approach to wellness, its behavioral health subsidiary, MHN, will provide on-site coaches to offer support and education for participating Veterans and their caregivers.

The Summer Sports Clinic promotes rehabilitation of body and spirit by teaching summer sporting activities to Veterans with significant physical or psychological impairments. Participation is open to U.S. military service Veterans who are newly injured from amputations, traumatic brain injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder and other neurological disorders. Sporting challenges such as sailing, surfing, kayaking, cycling, and track and field will be offered.

The Clinic’s activities not only help instill confidence and hope, but also demonstrate that having a visual or physical disability need not be an obstacle to an active, rewarding life. For more information, please visit www.summersportsclinic.va.gov.
