Global Healthy Living Foundation Launches "What's Your Affordable Care (F)act?" YouTube Campaign

Campaign launched in association with featured leadership from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

UPPER NYACK, N.Y., March 26, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Friday, March 23, 2012, the Global Healthy Living Foundation (GHLF.org) launched the YouTube campaign "What's Your Affordable Care (F)act?" to commemorate the two year anniversary of the enactment of the largest healthcare overhaul legislation in American history, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

"As a person living with a chronic disease, I can appreciate the significance of this act and what it means to the millions of Americans who live and breathe the economic burden that healthcare costs can bring," says Seth Ginsberg, President, Global Healthy Living Foundation. "We hope this campaign and our video testimonials serve as an example of what legislation designed to support Americans truly means."

The campaign, which launched online at www.ghlf.org/whatsyourcarefact, encourages millions of people across the country who have been personally affected by the legislation to join the movement and share their own stories online through YouTube. To continue to spread the word nationwide, the foundation has also encouraged posters to redistribute information about the campaign and their video personally through Facebook and Twitter. The short, self-produced videos tell the inspiring personal stories of how healthcare reform has helped improve their lives.

Viewers who submit their video will be invited by GHLF to attend the Affordable Care Act two-year anniversary commemoration in New York City on April 25th. The person who submits the video which receives the most views will be awarded a free trip to New York to attend the reception and share their story in person to an audience of regional and national patient advocacy organizations expected to be in attendance.

For more information about the campaign and to learn how to submit your own video to enter the contest, go to www.ghlf.org/whatsyourcarefact  or call (845) 348-0400.

On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act, which put in place comprehensive health insurance reforms for Americans, with most changes taking place by 2014. With additional provisions still to come, the new healthcare law is already making a difference in many ways, including:

  • Expanded coverage for young adults: 2.5 million more young adults have health insurance on their parent's plan.
  • Pre-existing condition insurance plans: It is illegal for insurance companies to deny coverage to children because of a pre-existing condition.
  • Insurance companies must spend at least 80 percent of your premium dollars on healthcare and not overhead.
