First of Its Kind Program in Pennsylvania Provides Financial Rewards for Healthy Activities

HealthAmericaOne®members earn money for working toward lifestyle changes

HARRISBURG & PITTSBURGH, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- HealthAmerica announced today a first of its kind, innovative health insurance program: HealthAmericaOne Rewards. The program is being offered exclusively to those who purchase insurance for individuals and families from HealthAmerica (HealthAmericaOne®). HealthAmerica is the first carrier in Pennsylvania’s individual market to offer such a program.

Through the program, HealthAmericaOne members can earn money by successfully completing health-promoting wellness activities.

Members who complete an online health risk assessment and accept interaction by wellness program coaches will receive a $100 incentive. Members who use tobacco can earn an additional $100 reward by completing a QuitNet smoking cessation program. A reward of $50 can be earned by participating in an online wellness program. The maximum reward is $250 per contract year.

“Focusing on achieving and maintaining good health is gaining acceptance as a viable way to mitigate growth in medical costs,” said Mary Lou Osborne, chief operating officer for HealthAmerica. “HealthAmerica has produced a unique model for encouraging good health in the individual marketplace. We’re helping all members understand that wellness is more than just the absence of sickness; it is good physical health and the prevention of illness.”

The new HealthAmericaOne Rewards program complements wellness options that are currently built into HealthAmericaOne’s plans. Members currently have access to discounts for vision services and eyewear, reimbursement for participation in group weight loss classes up to $350, and 100 percent reimbursement for health education classes for medical conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, and back pain.

The insurance plans are being offered with a range of deductibles and some of the lowest premiums in the market. Preventive care services are not subject to the deductible and are covered at 100 percent.
