Dispute continues between Anthem Blue Cross, California children's hospital

A dispute between Children's Hospital Central California and WellPoint's Anthem Blue Cross began in 2007 and 2008, when the two organizations were trying to craft a new contract, according to Healthcare Payer News. During a 10-month period, Children's Hospital provided emergency care to about 900 patients covered under Anthem's Medicaid managed care plan and billed $10.8 million for services. Anthem ended up paying only $4.2 million, which went toward covering emergency care. Children's Hospital then sued the insurer for not covering the total sum. California's 5th District Court of Appeal has recently ordered a new trial for this case. Article
