As the October 1, 2013, launch of state-based health insurance exchanges approaches, health plans face the difficult task of adapting their premium-billing and collection services to comply with requirements introduced in the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Under the ACA health plans must first rate each family member based on that individual’s unique attributes (such as location, age, family structure, tobacco use, and benefit chosen), and then aggregate the individual premiums into a total premium for billing purposes. Each health plan must be able to collect those premiums from multiple sources, including individual consumers and the federal government. Many health plans are unable to update their systems and processes to meet these requirements.

provides exchange connector and premium aggregation services to help health plans overcome this challenge. These services alleviate major concerns for health plans by offering a membership-management and premium-billing solution that causes limited disruption to existing systems. CONEXIS operates as an extension of the health plan by integrating with its membership and financial management systems to facilitate membership administration from state-based health insurance exchanges and premium aggregation from multiple third party entities.

CONEXIS has extensive experience in premium billing and aggregation, managing more than $1 billion in premiums for its clients in 2012. Available now in multiple states, the CONEXIS Connector Services program combines these services to provide health plans with a white-label solution for billing and collecting premiums from individuals who purchase coverage through state-based exchanges.

“We’re excited to provide exchange connector services to our health plan partners,” says Michael Close, president of CONEXIS. “Our organization is known for our technology, efficiency, and scalability; and we look forward to helping health plans provide a seamless experience for consumers who purchase coverage through the state-based health insurance exchanges.”
