CIGNA Expands Community Caring Awards

Innovative New Program Encourages Employees to Run, Walk or Bike in Support of Charitable Organizations

  • New national program supports CIGNA employee involvement in the health of their communities
  • CIGNA employees can now direct a $100 CIGNA Foundation grant to charity by participating in fitness activities, such as walk-a-thons

BLOOMFIELD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Charities throughout the United States will benefit from a new CIGNA community initiative that provides $100 grants when CIGNA employees participate in organized healthy activities in support of community organizations, such as runs, walks and cycling events, that are open to the general public.

“At CIGNA, we know that there is a close link between personal health and community health,” said David M. Cordani, CIGNA President and CEO. “This new CIGNA program will help our 24,000 US-based employees connect their personal health with the health and well-being of communities across the country. I am inspired each day by the lengths our CIGNA team members go to positively impact the lives of others.”

CIGNA's new healthy giving grants are an expansion of the CIGNA Foundation’s Community Caring Awards, which recognize both individual and group community service to approved organizations. The existing program encourages volunteerism among CIGNA employees by extending $200 grants to charitable organizations where employees volunteer 20 or more hours per year outside of work hours. CIGNA also offers all employees up to eight hours of paid time off per year for volunteer activities to increase the impact of its people in their neighborhoods across the country.

The expansion of the Community Caring Awards adds a healthy lifestyle component through new donations of $100 grants to charity when CIGNA employees participate in organized fitness activities, which aligns with CIGNA's mission of enhancing personal health and supporting local communities.

CIGNA recently kicked off its new healthy lifestyle giving community initiative at the Walt Disney World Marathon, presented by CIGNA. Visit CIGNA's YouTube channel to view CIGNA employees’ first impressions of the expanded Community Caring Awards: http://www.youtube.com/cigna.
