CIGNA Dental Introduces Dental Network Savings Program with Opportunities for Out-of-Network Savings

  • CIGNA’s Dental Network Savings Program became a standard feature of CIGNA’s DPPO and Indemnity plans1 on Jan. 1, 2011
  • The program provides access to a supplemental group of non-network dentists resulting in claim savings for employers and lower out-of-pocket costs for individuals
  • CIGNA’s DPPO Radius network offers the greatest access to dentists at all discount levels and has grown more than 47 percent during the past two years

PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- CIGNA (NYSE: CI) today announced the introduction of the Dental Network Savings Program, designed to provide Dental PPO (DPPO) and Dental Indemnity clients and customers additional savings opportunities when receiving covered dental plan services from a participating program dentist. This program supplements traditional DPPO Core and Radius in-network dental care access.

The Dental Network Savings Program lowers claim costs for clients offering CIGNA’s DPPO and Indemnity dental plans. In addition to the in-network discount, clients can receive about a five to 10 percent discount from the average area charge for covered services.

The new program became a standard component of CIGNA’s DPPO and Indemnity plans1 on Jan. 1, 2011. Dentists who participate in the new program will benefit from reduced administration costs, as well as the opportunity to add new patients.

“As oral health is an important indicator in a person’s overall health, CIGNA has built a variety of dental products that meet our customer’s needs and preferences,” said Julie Vayer, vice president for health care professional solutions, for CIGNA. “By expanding cost savings and improving customer access to care, we believe people will make better use of their benefits now which may prevent more serious health concerns later.”

The CIGNA Dental PPO Radius network is one of the nation’s largest dental networks and has grown 47 percent over the last two years. It includes more than 82,000 unique dentists, which translates to more than 188,000 dentist locations2.

For a listing of participating DNSP dentists, CIGNA customers can visit the online directory on www.cigna.com, www.myCIGNA.com or 1.800.CIGNA24 (1.800.244.6224). CIGNA customers can now also access the directory as well as other benefit information via any mobile phone browser at http://m.mycigna.com.

1 The DNSP is not standard for clients with Scheduled Benefit or MAC plans.
2 The term “dentist locations” refers to the total number of locations where each network dentist is contracted to provide services to CIGNA Dental customers. Data is as of November 2010.
