Cigna and Cancer Treatment Centers of America Announce New Agreement to Serve Cancer Patients Nationwide

  • Patients retain in-network access to entire CTCA hospital network
  • Outcomes-based performance program focuses on high-quality care and accountability

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Cigna and Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) have agreed to expand healthcare options and accessibility for cancer patients and their families who are Cigna customers. Under a new national agreement, Cigna customers have in-network access to all four CTCA regional cancer care hospitals and affiliated physicians in Chicago, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Tulsa.

“This is the kind of teamwork cancer patients and their families need. When I was diagnosed with cancer, I wanted to choose the facility that provided me with the highest quality of care,” said Dahlia Claiborne of District Heights, Md., a Cigna customer who receives treatment for breast cancer at CTCA in Philadelphia. “CTCA has given me that and much more by focusing on my specific needs and the accessibility to my doctors and entire care team.”

The agreement also marks a new level of innovation and clinical collaboration with quality-of-care provisions established by Cigna and CTCA to enhance the quality of oncology care available to Cigna customers, improve their quality of life, and emphasize the transparency and accountability that is typically not evident in today’s healthcare delivery system, in which reimbursement is often based on quantity rather than outcomes.

“We strongly believe in working collaboratively with hospitals and physicians to exceed clinical care guidelines as it results in a better consumer experience and helps lower overall health care costs,” said Michael Triplett, president, regional segment, Cigna. “CTCA is committed to providing high-quality oncology care, and we’re pleased that its facilities will remain in Cigna’s network under our new national agreement.”

CTCA specializes in treating complex and advanced-stage cancer and is home to Patient Empowered Care®. This unique treatment model combines state-of-the-art clinical treatments and technology with an array of complementary therapies – such as nutritional therapy, naturopathic medicine, pain management, oncology rehabilitation, mind-medicine and spiritual support – that help minimize side effects and improve quality of life.

“We have been excited about the growth of our alliance with Cigna over the years,” said John Conway, senior vice president at CTCA. “We share a commitment to empower patients with information to make healthcare decisions that are right for them and to deliver personalized, high-quality cancer care that helps them get back to their lives faster.”
