OMAHA, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Coventry Health Care of Nebraska has been selected as the new health plan administrator for the Nebraska Comprehensive Health Insurance Pool (CHIP), a state program designed to provide health insurance for Nebraska residents unable to obtain affordable coverage without restrictions due to medical reasons.

Coventry Health Care of Nebraska is an established, local health insurance carrier serving nearly 220,000 members in the region and is currently a vendor for the Nebraska Medicaid program.

“We are pleased to further expand our service to Nebraska residents as administrator for the CHIP program,” said Charlie Stark, CEO of Coventry Health Care of Nebraska. "We will strive to help each CHIP member achieve their best possible health by providing innovative health and wellness resources, reliable coverage and responsive customer service."

The Nebraska CHIP Board of Directors selected Coventry as health plan administrator during the Dec. 21 Board meeting following a formal Request for Proposal process. Coventry will administer benefits for the NE CHIP program effective April 1, 2012.

“Coventry’s local leadership and unique focus on the delivery of quality care is an excellent fit for our Nebraska CHIP members,” said CHIP Board Chairman Victor Kensler. “We anticipate a smooth transition to Coventry and a positive member experience for CHIP participants.”

CHIP benefits are currently administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska.
