PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- CIGNA (NYSE:CI) General Counsel Carol Ann Petren last night received one of InsideCounsel magazine's Second Annual Transformative Leadership Awards. The awards, which were presented at a dinner in conjunction with InsideCounsel’s 11th Annual SuperConference, to honor women in-house counsel and law firm partners who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing women in corporate law.

Petren won the Anastasia D. Kelly Award, which honors a general counsel who has manifested a sustained commitment to promoting women to senior leadership roles in the law department and beyond – and whose commitment to advancing women has made a significant impact on those women around her.

As head of the Legal & Public Affairs area for CIGNA, Petren oversees a team of more than 200 professionals handling legal, regulatory, corporate, compliance, and government affairs in the U.S. and internationally.
Prior to joining CIGNA, Petren accumulated more than 18 years of experience in litigation and private practice before moving to corporate America. Petren also served as a mentor for the International Women’s Forum and had been involved in women’s initiatives at various law firms. Petren also dedicates her time to a range of organizations committed to health and public policy issues and holds board positions on the Lupus Foundation of America, A Chance to Heal, and Equal Justice Works, among others.
The winners were selected by a National Awards Committee comprised of general counsel from leading corporations and partners at top law firms.
