Alliance Desert Physicians to Sponsor Medicare Plan Comparison Seminars

VICTORVILLE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Seniors who are on Medicare have some important choices to make before the end of the year. As a community service, Alliance Desert Physicians is sponsoring free seminars to help them make critical decisions about their health care in 2011.

In order to help seniors select the best coverage option for them, Alliance Desert Physicians is offering free Medicare Plan Comparison Seminars. Unbiased insurance representatives can help seniors review and compare the benefits of available Medicare plans, check prescription coverage and cost, and find the plan that saves them the most money. Participants will also learn about the Medicare plans accepted at Alliance Desert Physicians.

In addition, the seminars will provide information on other changes to Medicare that health care reform will bring in 2011 and beyond. Seniors will learn about future cost savings on premiums and coinsurance, new benefits such as free preventive care and better chronic care, and more affordable prescription drugs.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has eliminated the “open enrollment period” that was previously offered from January through March. That means seniors must lock in their Medicare coverage choice for 2011 during the upcoming annual enrollment period, from November 15 to December 31. Whatever coverage they select will remain in place for all of 2011, so seniors need to be sure they do their homework before selecting their coverage.

Seniors are often inundated during annual enrollment with marketing materials and hefty packets of information that can be overwhelming and confusing. In addition to the Medicare Plan Comparison Seminars, seniors can schedule individual appointments during which representatives can check to see if a senior’s prescriptions are covered, help them calculate the cost of prescriptions under various plans, and enroll them in the Medicare plan of their choice. Sales materials and applications will be available at every meeting for those who wish enroll right away. The Medicare plan comparison service is intended to help seniors cut through the marketing hype and find the plan with the best benefits for them.

Alliance Desert Physicians is the newest independent group of physicians to serve the High Desert area. The primary care physicians offer same-day appointments and are affiliated with St. Mary Medical Center. Seminars are open to all seniors at no cost or obligation and will be held at Alliance Desert Physicians’ Wellness Center at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 15, Thursday, November 18 and Friday, December 3. An evening seminar is planned for Tuesday, November 30 at 5:30 p.m. at the same location.
