Aetna Selected for New Ohio Medicaid Contract

RICHFIELD, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Aetna Better Health of Ohio, an Aetna (NYSE: AET) health plan that administers benefits for Medicaid members, has been selected by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) to administer services in Ohio. The contract will be effective January 1, 2013.

Approximately 1.6 million individuals are eligible for Ohio’s Medicaid Managed Care Program statewide. “We look forward to partnering with the state of Ohio and its physicians, health systems and other providers to drive improvements in service delivery and health outcomes,” said Tom Kelly, head of Aetna Medicaid. “We are ready to commit our talent and resources to the development and maturation of medical homes and accountable care organizations that can help improve the quality and efficiency of medical care, as well as the effective use of technology to improve clinical and administrative data-sharing. We recognize the tremendous opportunity and challenge of reducing disparities and empowering members and their care-givers with the tools needed to lead healthy and independent lives.”
