RTI International, a Research Triangle Based nonprofit organization, said last week it will manage a collaborative effort involving 33 states and Puerto Rico to identify problems and variations between state policies regarding the privacy and security of patient and community health-care information. It's expected to issue a final report in March. The Health Information Security and Privacy Collaboration project is a component of the Department of Health and Human Services' strategy to identify variations in privacy and security practices and laws affecting the exchange of healthcare data electronically and propose solutions to those problems.
