Premier Healthcare Alliance, 15 Member Hospitals and Health Systems on 2011 InformationWeek 500 List

Premier ranks 59 for PhysicianFocus interactive technology linking physicians and health systems for performance improvement

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Premier healthcare alliance and 15 of its more than 2,500 members have been named to the 2011 InformationWeek 500, a list of the top technology innovators in the nation. Premier was ranked 59 on the list, up from 72 last year, and 10th in the healthcare industry.

“For 23 years, the InformationWeek 500 has chronicled and honored the most innovative users of business technology,” said InformationWeek Editor In Chief Rob Preston. “In this day and age, however, being innovative isn’t enough. Companies and their IT organizations need to innovate faster than ever before to stay a step or two ahead of their customers, partners, and competitors. This year’s ranking placed special emphasis on those high-octane business technology innovators.”

Premier received the award for its leadership in leveraging information technology in significant and innovative ways to support alliance members.

In collaboration with members, Premier developed PhysicianFocus, a Web-based, interactive technology for both practicing physicians and physician leaders to demonstrate value and identify opportunities for performance improvement.

“Physicians are being scrutinized now more than ever and hospital administration is challenged with conducting positive dialogues on the specifics of physician practices and performance," said Premier Senior Vice President of Healthcare Informatics Keith J. Figlioli. "To effectively gain practitioner buy-in and promote clinical integration, it is essential to have actionable data that physicians can relate to, appreciate and respect.”

PhysicianFocus delivers highly accurate Premier data with actionable insights and steps proven to improve performance. Cleansed with 1,500-plus validations, and updated frequently, this data is benchmarked against more than 20 percent of all U.S. discharges from more than 750 hospitals, and drills down to individual patient details.

PhysicianFocus also supports clinical integration models, bringing together hospitals and physicians to coordinate and deliver higher quality care more efficiently and with greater value.

InformationWeek identifies and honors the nation's most innovative users of information technology with its annual 500 listing, and also tracks the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America's best-known companies.

The InformationWeek 500 rankings are unique among corporate rankings as they spotlight the power of innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders.
