Fast Facts: Before being named vice president and CIO of Sloan-Kettering in 2002, Skarulis worked in the same capacity for Chicago's Rush University Medical Center for 11 years. While at Rush, Skarulis also served as an Assistant Professor in Department of Health Systems Management.
Why she's so fierce: Skarulis is leading the development of one of the largest single-organization data warehouses for patient care and clinical research, a secure, web-based system containing more than 1 million cancer patient records. She also led the pilot test of a wireless, speech-enabled communications network throughout the enterprise. Skarulis was honored for lifetime achievement with the 2008 CHIME-HIMSS John E. Gall Jr. CIO of the Year Award.
