New York OKs $55M in funds for HIE

The New York State Legislature voted recently to support the Statewide Health Information Network of New York (SHIN-NY), the state's electronic health record system, according to an announcement from the New York eHealth Collaborative. The final budget includes $55 million in state funding to build a public network that will allow doctors and patients easy access complete health records.

Before the funding was approved, a group of about 80 healthcare chief executive officers sent a note to the New York State Legislature in support of the statewide health information exchange.

"The New York eHealth Collaborative and the 10 Regional Health Information Organizations across New York look forward to working closely with the state to assure that this life-saving investment serves the hundreds of hospitals, thousands of healthcare providers and millions of people receiving health care in New York," Dave Whitlinger, executive director of the New York eHealth Collaborative, which coordinates activities for the SHIN-NY, said in the announcement. Announcement
