- Automated System Efficiently Captures Required Data for HEDIS Audits and Quality Accreditation
- Advanced Abstraction Module Assists in Identifying Potential Health Care Service Gaps
SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- MediConnect Global today announced the availability of enhanced extraction services for capturing Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) measures required for submission to the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).
As part of RapidReview, the company’s proprietary customizable online workflow system, MediConnect’s new HEDIS abstraction module will allow users to quickly capture each required element for the HEDIS measures and, in turn, prepare HEDIS results reports and data extract files, which can be imported into any system. MediConnect counts four out of the top five health plans in the United States among its many clients.
HEDIS data is collected by health plans to assess specific patient-related criteria consisting of measures across various domains of health care. The data is used in obtaining accreditation, evaluating and identifying potential service gaps, and reporting on overall health care performance.
“In order for health plans to stay competitive in terms of quality of care offered, abstracting data from the medical records for HEDIS is critical,” said Amy Rees Anderson, CEO of MediConnect. “MediConnect’s new HEDIS module significantly streamlines the process of gathering the large volumes of medical records and organizing them such that they can be quickly reviewed and abstracted in the most efficient manner. Each HEDIS abstraction form is linked to the corresponding medical record within the workflow system, which allows users to easily capture the elements for each HEDIS measure.”
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) also utilize the HEDIS data when determining the five-star quality score for a health plan. Five-star quality scores act as a resource to consumers, and are also used by the government to identify and reward plans meeting and exceeding quality standards.
HEDIS information submitted to the NCQA is compiled into the “State of Health Care Quality” report, providing a comprehensive overview of the performance of the nation’s healthcare system, and allows for consumers to compare health plan performance with other plans.
“In addition to providing a means of comparison for consumers, HEDIS measurements are designed to help health plans recognize areas where their providers need to improve patient care and service,” added Anderson. “By offering simple and efficient ways to capture these measures, we help health plans to easily identify those areas that need adjustments, which ultimately translates into higher quality of care for patients.”
