MEDHOST Announces Partnership with Health Management Associates, Inc. for Emergency Department Technology

NAPLES, Fla. & ADDISON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- MEDHOST, provider of leading healthcare throughput and emergency department software, announced today a new partnership with Health Management Associates, Inc. (NYSE: HMA) to more efficiently manage the flow of clinical data and patients in 58 of Health Management’s emergency departments (ED).

The partnership brings the best and most recent advancements in Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) technology to physicians, nurses and other medical staff, allowing Health Management to continuously deliver the highest quality and most appropriate healthcare to patients. Developed by clinicians, MEDHOST EDIS is intuitive and innovative, featuring touch screen navigation, complete clinical charting and clinician order entry, real-time patient tracking, robust charge capture, customization features, and comprehensive reporting.

“Health Management diligently reviewed many possible solutions and chose MEDHOST because our EDIS is easy for clinicians to use, and it strongly supports meaningful use strategies. We believe that our EDIS, ED Pass and Care Clock will positively impact Health Management’s quality of patient care goals,” said Craig Herrod, president of MEDHOST. “Everyone at MEDHOST is eager to deliver value for Health Management’s hospitals and the communities they serve. This new relationship illustrates how MEDHOST’s customer service and implementation capabilities have grown with support from our holding company, HealthTech Holdings.”

In addition to deploying MEDHOST’s EDIS, Health Management will implement two complementary technologies: MEDHOST ED Pass, a self service check-in kiosk that helps streamline the ED registration process and gives clinicians a better view of patients in the waiting room; and MEDHOST Care Clock, which enables hospitals to post current ED wait times on their websites or on billboards so that patients can make more informed decisions about where to seek care for non-urgent problems.

“We are delighted to partner with MEDHOST and further our mission to enable America’s best local health care,” said Ken Chatfield, Chief Information Officer of Health Management. “Capturing clinical and patient data accurately in a usable format is vital to the success of our emergency departments, allowing us to better serve our patients. We believe MEDHOST is the best system for the job.”

MEDHOST solutions will be implemented during the next several months and will include training for nurses, physicians and other clinicians who will leverage the system.
