At today,McKesson Pharmacy Systems & Automation (MPS&A) announced the release of its McKesson Mobile Delivery™ application (app), a new tool that can help improve adherence rates, drive greater operational efficiencies for pharmacies and reduce costly hospital admissions. Designed for use with Apple iOS devices such as the iPhone, iPad and iPad mini, the Mobile Delivery app can scan prescription labels, process credit or FSA cards, capture all payment and pharmacy-related signatures, and email receipts. Within the pharmacy, the app supports drive-through services.

“The new McKesson Mobile Delivery app allows pharmacists to bring their pharmacy services to the point-of-care, whether it’s the doorstep of a customer’s house or a hospital bedside,” said Nathan Mott, president, McKesson Pharmacy Systems & Automation. “Taking advantage of this mobility, pharmacists can ensure that patients receive their medication on time or before they even leave the hospital. This level of pharmacist involvement in the continuum of care is helping increase patient medication adherence and drive down hospital admission rates.”

Developed in partnership with , the payments division for , the McKesson Mobile Delivery app interfaces with a card reader that attaches to any Apple iOS device through the earphone socket and securely encrypts every swipe. Funds from swiped payments are deposited directly into pharmacy bank accounts within one to two business days.

“Many pharmacies carry the cost of offering house accounts to delivery customers,” said Mott. “With this app they can provide quality care services, get paid faster and improve the cash flow in their business.”

Additional features of the McKesson Mobile Delivery app include controlled substance tracking that records the name and state or federal identification of the person receiving prescriptions that are classified as government regulated. The recorded identification information as well as all transactions and signatures captured on the device can be monitored and viewed in real time using a secure online portal.
