The organizations share a strong commitment to ensuring the security of confidential health information, and the right of individuals to control the uses and disclosures of their personal health data.
Dr. Peel and Jericho Systems discussed PPR’s increasing concern over the lack of patient privacy as the healthcare industry adopts electronic health records (EHRs), and explored how the patented technology of Jericho’s EnterSpace Decisioning Service (ESDS) is addressing those concerns.
“Americans should be terrified to learn they have no control over their health data in the majority of health IT systems,” said Dr. Peel. “Unfortunately, private corporations interested in data mining and using patient data without consent designed today’s systems. “The right of patients to control their most sensitive personal data — from prescriptions to DNA — was eliminated by federal regulators implementing the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in 2002. The privacy notices we sign in doctors’ offices do not ensure our control over personal data.
