Google, Johnson & Johnson take on surgical robots

Google and Johnson & Johnson device company Ethicon are teaming up to create robots to assist surgeons.

Together, the companies will create a "robotic-assisted surgical platform" that can improve care in the operating room, according to an announcement. The tools they envision will help and OR employees integrate medical device tech with robotic systems, imaging and data.

"This collaboration with Google is another important step in our commitment to advancing surgical care, and together, we aim to put the best science, technology and surgical know-how in the hands of medical teams around the world," said Gary Pruden, worldwide chairman of the Global Surgery Group at Johnson & Johnson.
