The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) started the process of closing its doors today.
CCHIT will end all operations on Nov. 14, according to an announcement. The commission one of the first organizations tapped by the Department of Health and Human Services to work as an official certifying body for electronic records for Meaningful Use.
"We are concluding our operations with pride in what has been accomplished," Alisa Ray, CCHIT executive director, said in the announcement. "CCHIT's trustees decided that, in the current environment, operations should be carefully brought to a close."
In January, CCHIT said it would be exiting the ONC Meaningful Use certification business because of uncertainty with the timing and nature of future program requirements.
The organization, a nonprofit, will donate its remaining assets to the HIMSS Foundation. Announcement
