athenahealth Named to Forbes' List of America's 25 Fastest-Growing Tech Companies

WATERTOWN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- athenahealth, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATHN), a leading provider of cloud-based practice management, electronic health record (EHR), and care coordination services to medical groups, today announced it was named to Forbes’ annual list of America’s 25 Fastest-Growing Tech Companies. athenahealth secured the #4 ranking, in close standing to Apple and LinkedIn.

“Our rank on the Forbes Fastest Growing Tech Companies list demonstrates the momentum that’s been building behind our cloud-based services,” said Jonathan Bush, athenahealth CEO and Chairman. “We’ve gone from trying to convince medical practices and health systems that this thing called ‘the cloud’ can offer a better approach than traditional software, to helping more than 30,000 providers achieve proven results and thrive in today’s changing health care landscape. It’s satisfying to find ourselves sitting among technology leaders with real stature, and in the still rarer circle of being both a high-growth and a maturing company.”

To select the winners, Forbes looked at over 5,000 publicly traded technology companies with a minimum revenue of $150 million and a minimum market value of $500 million. The companies were also required to have a sales growth of at least 10 percent for each of the past three fiscal years and over the latest 12 months. Additionally, they needed a three-to-five-year estimated earnings-per-share growth rates greater than 10 percent. The finalists were ranked based on their three-year average sales growth rates.
