Arnot Ogden Medical Center Achieves HIMSS Analytics Stage 6 Recognition

Healthcare system will utilize QuadraMed’s EMR solution to help meet “meaningful use” criteria

RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- QuadraMed® Corporation today announced that HIMSS Analytics has recognized Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, N.Y., for attaining the level of Stage 6 in their EMR Adoption Model. Arnot Ogden, a 256-bed tertiary medical facility with more than 300 physicians from over 50 specialties, is one of only 125 U.S. hospitals to achieve this advanced level of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) sophistication. The health system, which uses QuadraMed Computerized-Patient Record (QCPR™), expects that its progressive health information technology solution will help it meet the federal government’s “meaningful use” requirements, which will result in the attainment of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) incentives.

“The flexibility of QCPR and its comprehensive tool set has allowed us to evolve our health system organically by making changes tailored to specific departments and caregivers’ needs over the years,” said Gregg Martin, CIO, Arnot Ogden Medical Center. “QuadraMed’s willingness to support interface development to other internal systems has also enabled us to further enhance our EMR to meet this advanced level of HIMSS Stage 6 recognition. We’re also ready to meet nearly all of the criteria for 'meaningful use' of our EMR utilizing QuadraMed’s technology. Overall, we are very satisfied with the capabilities of QCPR and the customer service provided by QuadraMed’s skilled employees.”

HIMSS Analytics is the research and consulting arm of the HIMSS, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the leading association of health information technology professionals. For Stage 6 recognition, the second-highest level in its schema, HIMSS Analytics requires a hospital or healthcare system to have lab, radiology, and pharmacy systems, a central data repository capable of health information exchange, nursing documentation, full clinical decision support, a complete PACS system, CPOE, closed-loop medication administration, and physician documentation using structured templates for at least part of the clinicians’ work.

Arnot Ogden has relied heavily on QCPR to develop the functionality needed to meet HIMSS Analytics’ Stage 6 requirements. Since 2003, Arnot Ogden has used QCPR’s computerized physician order entry (CPOE)—a key requirement for Stage 6 recognition. To make the leap to the next level, the health system developed a structured template within QCPR that provides physicians with advanced decision support on medication dosing, based on other structured data entered into the EMR.

“We applaud Arnot Ogden’s well-deserved recognition as a HIMSS Analytics Stage 6 facility,” commented Duncan W. James, CEO of QuadraMed. “Less than two percent of the nation’s hospitals have received this honor, which is a tribute to Arnot Ogden’s hard work, persistence and vision, as well as to the excellence of our QCPR solution. We look forward to many more years of helping Arnot Ogden transform quality care into positive financial results.”
